The Goal of Parent University ...

The goal of Parent University is to educate, equip, and enlist parents to combat today’s outside forces that are facing youth, so that our young people can develop into tomorrow’s Christian leaders. It is our desire that parents learn ways to lead their children in these difficult times through connected conversations, deliberate decision-making, and helping our children to stay accountable and Christ-centered in practical ways.

Parent University will provide relevant training and seminars, with experts throughout the community. Parent University will also extend the opportunity to participate in small groups for parents to connect with one another and get to know each other. These groups will provide a more personal, confidential setting to understand the individual challenges that each family faces pertaining to the topics we will cover.

Dr. Nicole Fitzpatrick
Director of Counseling, Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Nicole Fitzpatrick has served as Director of Hyde Park Counseling Center since 2006. She received her Ph.D and Masters Degree from the University of Texas in Austin in the area of Educational Psychology. Her passion is working with individuals who struggle with anxiety and depression through discipleship, counseling, and assessment. The heart of her ministry is rooted in Galatians 2:20, “that we have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us.”  How does one live that out? She helps others ponder that very question in an authentic way to experience freedom in their relationship with Jesus, others, and inside their own heads and hearts.

Growing up in southern California, Nicole feels at home in the sunny climate of central Texas which she has called home for the last 19 years. Nicole is married to a native Austinite, and life is definitely full with their two young sons Hudson and Caden. For fun, she enjoys exploring new restaurants in Austin in pursuit of the perfect spicy tuna roll, Friday family movie nights, and hosting friends to gather around the table for food and lots of laughter.
Dr. Jimmy Myers, LPC-S
Jimmy Myers spent the first 20 years of vocational life in youth ministry at local churches. Having earned his B.A. in Theology from Howard Payne University and both his M.A. and Ph.D in Professional Counseling from Liberty University, he serves as the Executive Director of Timothy Center a multi-campus Christian counseling practice focusing on adolescents and their families.  Additionally, he teaches at Liberty Universit,  serves as Family Pastor for LifeAustin Church, and was appointed by the Governor as a member of the Texas State Juvenile Advisory Board. His writings on parenting include Toe to Toe with Your Teen: Successfully Parenting a Defiant Teen without Giving Up or Giving In (Revell, 2009), and he is in currently co-authoring a book on parenting with George Barna, due out in May 2017.

For the past 25 years, his daily focus has been helping others find God’s solutions to life challenges, and experience has shown him that it is never too late to turn a family around.  He and his wife, Beth, have three adult married children and four grandchildren. He enjoys traveling with his wife and family, scuba, hunting/fishing, and golf.
Dr. Josh Myers, LPC-S
Joshua Myers surrendered his life to full time Christian service in 2000. Since that point the Lord has impressed on his heart a passion not only for people, but more specifically for the stories which they tell. It is that passion that directed Joshua towards Christian counseling.  He earned his B.A. in Christian Studies from Howard Payne University, an M.A. in  Marriage and Family Counseling from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D. in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. He has worked with a variety of ages and issues. Being not only young at heart, but in age as well, Joshua has instant credibility with teenagers and children. And he has a passion for seeing the healing work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of God’s people.

Josh and his wife, Katie, are the parents of Ruth and JJ. In his “spare time” he is an Adjunct Professor for the Undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences at Liberty University. He enjoys speaking at chapel services, parent meetings, Wednesday night youth services, and working closely with and supporting the work of the local church.
