Hyde Park Senior Receives State-Level Fine Arts Honor
Senior Matt Crawford received a prestigious state-level fine arts honor this month!
Rising to the top of the state high school choir students, Matt was named to the TPSMEA All State Choir. TPSMEA, Texas Private School Music Educators Association, consists of over 200 private school music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education. According to HPHS Fine Arts Faculty Member Darlene Cluff, “Texas has a very competitive state-level high school choir program and the fact that Matt received this honor two years in a row is a wonderful accomplishment. Matt was also selected as 1st Chair for his section in the All State Choir.”
Matt’s Hyde Park arts resume includes the roles of Maurice in Beauty and the Beast, Edmond in Narnia, and Kurt in the Sound of Music. This fall, Matt will be playing the role of the Cheshire Cat in the HPHS Fine Arts fall production of Alice in Wonderland. When asked about his successes in Fine Arts, Matt replied, “I love theater and music and I didn’t event know I could do any of these things before I came to Hyde Park!” Along with the arts, Matt has been a member of the HP Baseball Program since his freshman year and has also been an active member of the Ultimate Frisbee Team during his Senior Year. When reflecting on his favorite parts of HP, Matt said, “Many of my teachers have supported me throughout my high school years, including Ms. Cluff and Mrs. Kent with choir/theater, and Mrs. Brandon with TAPPS Duet Acting Competitions. I also really like that Hyde Park has a Christian environment that encourages my faith.”
